Chintan Shivir Opens in Gujarat to Push Practical Reforms for India’s Highways

The two-day meeting seeks DPR-stage reform with integrated safety in design to produce practical fixes for land, utility, contract, and monitoring bottlenecks.

Overview

  • Union minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the national conclave on Monday, Oct 5, calling for stronger Detailed Project Report work to avoid delays, cost overruns and late clearances.
  • The programme gathers state transport and PWD ministers, senior officials and implementing agencies to share field-tested practices and agree on replicable solutions for faster delivery.
  • Five thematic sessions will focus on PM GatiShakti integrated planning, land issues and the Bhoomi Rashi platform, Model Concession Agreement ratings, highway safety, and quality assurance and project monitoring.
  • Gadkari said road safety must be built into project design from the start by identifying accident-prone spots and adding targeted safety measures during planning and construction.
  • If the conclave delivers actionable measures and improved centre–state coordination, projects could see fewer land and utility delays, lower cost escalation and better long-term road safety and quality.
