Chino Hills House Explosion Injures 9, Triggers Evacuations on Sierra Vista Drive

Overview

  • The blast and fire were reported around 3:45 p.m. in the 42000 block of Sierra Vista Drive, according to Chino Valley Fire.
  • Nine people inside the home were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and four had already self-transported before firefighters arrived.
  • Roughly 16 nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, and deputies reported damage to surrounding properties.
  • Sierra Vista Drive between Del Norte Avenue and Descanso Avenue was expected to stay closed for several hours.
  • Sheriff’s deputies, San Bernardino County Fire, Chino Valley Fire and SoCal Edison responded, and the cause is under investigation with a possible gas leak cited by officials.
