Overview

• The 48-year-old, surnamed Qin, fell into the concealed well on September 13 while walking in woods near Quanzhou and was rescued on the afternoon of September 15.
• Ten members of the Jinjiang Ruitong Blue Sky Emergency Rescue Centre deployed a thermal-imaging drone and zeroed in after hearing a faint call for help around 1:45 pm.
• Qin stayed above water by gripping a stone and relying on her swimming ability, but the well’s narrow top and wider base prevented any escape.
• She was first taken to Jinjiang City Hospital and then transferred to Quanzhou First Hospital with severe hand injuries, two rib fractures and a minor lung collapse.
• Doctors reported she is stable and expected to recover after several days, and she described enduring mosquito swarms and a non-venomous water-snake bite.
