Chinese scientists have created a deadly virus, GX_P2V, that has a 100% mortality rate in genetically modified mice, causing death within eight days of infection.
The virus, similar to SARS-CoV-2, was discovered in pangolins before the Covid outbreak and was manipulated in a lab for the study.
GX_P2V infected multiple organs in the mice, including the lungs, bones, eyes, tracheas, and brains, with the brain infection being so severe that it led to the animals' death.
The study has been heavily criticized by experts, including Francois Balloux, an epidemiology expert at the University College London's Genetics Institute, who called the research 'terrible' and 'scientifically totally pointless'.
