Overview
- Japan’s 10th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters said a patrol confirmed at about 6:15 a.m. JST on Sept. 28 that the Chinese vessel Xiangyanghong 22 was extending a wire-like object into the sea inside Japan’s EEZ.
- A patrol vessel radioed the research ship and demanded it stop the operation.
- The activity was observed roughly 380 kilometers west of Amami Oshima in the ChinChina Sea.
- About three and a half hours after the warning, authorities confirmed the ship had moved to the west side of the Japan–China geographic median line.
- The announcement was reported by Japanese media, including the Asahi Shimbun and Nishinippon Shimbun.
