Chinese National Sentenced for Targeting Falun Gong in U.S.

John Chen received a 20-month prison sentence for acting as an unregistered Chinese agent and bribing an IRS officer.

John Chen, a 71-year-old Chinese national residing in Los Angeles, was sentenced to 20 months in prison for his role in a scheme against Falun Gong practitioners in the U.S.
Chen, along with Lin Feng, conspired under the direction of the Chinese government to undermine the tax-exempt status of the Shen Yun Performing Arts Center.
The scheme involved bribing an undercover IRS agent with $5,000 to advance a whistleblower complaint aimed at Falun Gong.
Chen was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to forfeit $50,000.
Lin Feng, Chen's co-defendant, was previously sentenced to 16 months in prison for his involvement in the scheme.
