Chinese Airlines Extend Free Japan-Flight Cancellations Through March 28, 2026

The move follows a Chinese Foreign Ministry travel advisory that prompted carriers to cut Japan services.

Overview

  • Air China, China Eastern and China Southern extended no-fee refunds and changes for Japan routes to March 28, 2026.
  • The policy applies to flights to and from Japan as well as itineraries that transit Japanese airports.
  • Air China said on its website the extension was based on the Foreign Ministry’s recent travel advisory, with other carriers issuing similar notices on Dec. 5–6.
  • Chinese media reported that more than 40% of Japan–China services are suspended after reported government direction to reduce routes.
  • The extension updates an earlier year-end cutoff announced in mid-November and now covers the Lunar New Year travel period.
