China's Shenzhou-19 Crew Begins Mission on Tiangong Space Station
The three-person team, including China's only woman spaceflight engineer, will conduct experiments aimed at future lunar missions.
- The Shenzhou-19 mission launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, marking a 'complete success' as the crew docked with the Tiangong space station.
- The crew consists of Commander Cai Xuzhe, experienced from a previous Tiangong mission, and first-time astronauts Song Lingdong and Wang Haoze.
- Wang Haoze is the third Chinese woman to participate in a crewed space mission and will serve as the crew's payload specialist.
- The mission aims to gather experience for China's goal of landing astronauts on the Moon by 2030 and eventually building a lunar base.
- Experiments will include testing materials that mimic lunar soil, delivered by the Tianzhou-8 cargo ship, to assess their viability for lunar construction.
