  • International views of the United States have weakened markedly under President Trump, with many countries reporting double-digit declines in favorable opinion
  • A median 41 percent of respondents now name China as the world’s leading economic power, compared with 39 percent for the United States
  • Confidence in Xi Jinping stands at 25 percent, while only 22 percent of respondents express confidence in President Trump to do the right thing in world affairs
  • Developing nations such as Nigeria, Kenya and Indonesia are more likely to view China positively, and Canada now rates both superpowers equally at 34 percent while its preference for U.S. economic ties has dropped to 67 percent from 87 percent in 2019
