China's C919 Jet Begins First International Commercial Route to Hong Kong

China Eastern Airlines launches daily flights between Shanghai and Hong Kong using the domestically manufactured C919, marking a milestone for China's aviation industry.

The C919, China's first domestically produced passenger jet, completed its inaugural commercial flight outside mainland China on January 1, 2025.
China Eastern Airlines is operating daily round-trip flights between Shanghai and Hong Kong using the C919, with the first flight carrying 157 passengers.
The C919 is designed to compete with Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 models, offering a capacity of 158-192 passengers and a range of 5,555 kilometers.
The aircraft, developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac), has been in commercial use since May 2023 and is now part of routes connecting nine cities in China.
Plans are underway to expand production, with Comac aiming to build 360 units over the next decade and seeking approval for international market entry.
