Overview

• China is trialling visa-free travel for citizens from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia for a year, starting from December 1, 2023.
• The move is part of China's efforts to promote its high-quality development and opening up, and to boost post-pandemic tourism.
• Visitors from these countries can do business or travel in China without a visa for up to 15 days.
• China had some of the world's strictest Covid curbs, which were only lifted last December.
• China has been taking steps to revive its tourism sector, including restoring international flight routes.
