China to Host First Humans vs. Robots Half-Marathon in April
The groundbreaking race in Beijing will feature humanoid robots competing alongside 12,000 human runners over a 13-mile course.
- The event will take place in Beijing's Economic-Technological Development Area, also known as E-Town, with participation from global robotics companies, research institutes, and universities.
- Robots must meet specific criteria, including bipedal movement, a humanoid appearance, and a height range of 1.6 to 6.5 feet, but may be remotely operated or autonomous.
- This will mark the first time humanoid robots attempt to compete in a full half-marathon, with prizes awarded to the top three finishers, human or robot.
- Chinese robotics companies, including Unitree Robotics, have made significant advances in robot mobility, showcasing robots capable of running at speeds over 7 mph and navigating complex terrains.
- The race highlights China's growing investment in humanoid robotics and artificial intelligence, with the industry projected to reach $54.6 billion by 2030.
