China Sets 12:11 p.m. Beijing Launch for Shenzhou-22 to Support Space Station Crew

The craft was activated as a backup response to debris damage to Shenzhou-20’s return capsule.

Overview

  • China’s human spaceflight agency confirmed Shenzhou-22 will lift off at 12:11 Beijing time on November 25 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center atop a Long March 2F Y22.
  • The mission is intended to secure a safe ride home for the crew after the Shenzhou-20 return module was damaged by space debris.
  • Shenzhou-22, originally the emergency backup for the Shenzhou-21 mission, is planned to take over as the in‑orbit crew’s return vehicle.
  • Propellant loading on the Long March 2F has been completed as the launcher moves into its final preflight configuration.
  • The spacecraft will deliver supplies including astronaut food and station equipment, and the Shenzhou-21 crew remains in good condition on orbit.
