China, Pakistan and Bangladesh Form Working Group in Kunming

The inaugural China-Pakistan-Bangladesh summit established a mechanism to implement agreements aimed at boosting regional development

Overview

  • The summit was co-chaired by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Bangladeshi Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique, with Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch joining via video link alongside Additional Foreign Secretary Imran Ahmed Siddiqui.
  • Delegates outlined cooperation across trade, investment, agriculture, digital economy, green infrastructure, environmental protection, marine sciences, education and cultural exchanges.
  • Participants agreed to set up an intergovernmental working group to oversee implementation of joint projects and follow up on commitments.
  • Official statements highlighted that the cooperation adheres to open regionalism and true multilateralism, not targeting any third party.
  • The forum follows Bangladesh and Pakistan’s restoration of high-level engagement earlier this year after a 15-year diplomatic freeze.
