China Fires 27 Rockets in Ongoing Encirclement Drills Around Taiwan

Beijing frames the operation as a warning to those pushing Taiwan independence.

Overview

  • Taiwan’s defense ministry said 27 rocket projectiles landed in northern and southwest waters, with some strikes falling near the 24‑nautical‑mile zone off the coast.
  • China’s Eastern Theater Command set a live‑fire navigation exclusion from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and conducted long‑range army fire toward waters off Taipei.
  • Destroyers, bombers, amphibious ships and drones were deployed for maritime combat, anti‑submarine drills, blockade practice and simulated attacks.
  • Taiwan reported 130 Chinese military aircraft operating around the island in 24 hours, including about 90 crossing the Taiwan Strait’s median line, and condemned the drills.
  • The exercise, dubbed Justice Mission—2025, involves China’s army, navy, air force and Rocket Force, and prompted cancellations of at least 36 domestic flights in Taiwan.
