China Extends Visa-Free Entry for 45 Countries Through 2026, Adds Sweden

Beijing frames the move as a push to revive travel and commerce through a selective, unilateral opening.

Overview

  • China renewed its visa-free program to Dec. 31, 2026 for nationals of 45 countries, maintaining eligibility for South Korea and adding Sweden.
  • Ordinary passport holders from the covered countries can enter for up to 30 days for business, tourism, family visits or transit.
  • Reuters reported the extension spans 32 European nations alongside Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and several South American and Gulf countries.
  • The waivers had been due to lapse at the end of this year before the extension was announced by the foreign ministry.
  • The full authoritative country list had not yet appeared on foreign ministry or consular websites at the time of reporting.
