China Executes 11 in Crackdown on Myanmar-Based Cyberfraud Clan

The government portrays the move as a deterrent within its cross-border campaign against Myanmar-based scam syndicates.

Overview

  • A Wenzhou court carried out the September 2025 death sentences after the Supreme People’s Court upheld the verdicts, according to state media.
  • The convicted offenses included intentional homicide, illegal detention, fraud and illegal gambling, with authorities linking the group to deaths of Chinese citizens.
  • Those executed were tied to the Ming family network that ran large scam complexes in Kokang’s Laukkaing, including the Crouching Tiger Villa site that state media says employed up to 10,000 coerced workers.
  • Among those put to death were Ming Guoping, a Kokang militia leader and son of clan patriarch Ming Xuechang, his granddaughter Ming Zhenzhen, and allied crime boss Wu Hongming.
  • Courts also imposed five suspended death sentences and numerous prison terms up to life, while Beijing highlights ongoing repatriations and regional cooperation targeting transnational fraud.
