China Escalates Military Pressure on Taiwan with Largest Deployment Since Election

The show of force, including crossing of the median line of the Taiwan Strait by Chinese aircraft, follows a visit by US lawmakers to Taiwan and the announcement of talks between senior US and Chinese officials.

China has deployed 33 military aircraft and six naval vessels around Taiwan in the largest show of force since Taiwan's recent election.
Thirteen of the Chinese aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, an unofficial boundary between Taiwan and China.
Two Chinese balloons were also detected crossing the Taiwan Strait, marking a new tactic in China's pressure campaign against Taiwan.
The increased military pressure from Beijing comes after a visit by two US lawmakers to Taiwan and the announcement of talks between senior US and Chinese officials.
Taiwan, which recently held elections, has been losing diplomatic allies, with Nauru switching its diplomatic relations from Taipei to Beijing and Tuvalu's pro-Taiwan prime minister losing his parliamentary seat.
