China Envoys Promote Settlement in Ukraine Conflict

A top Chinese representative will visit Ukraine, Russia and Western European countries to push for resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
Li Hui, China's special envoy for Eurasian affairs, will tour Ukraine and Russia as well as Poland, France and Germany.
The trip comes after China's president spoke with Ukraine's leader and China proposed a 12-point plan for ending the conflict that has been met with skepticism.
China has called for a "political settlement" to the crisis but has avoided criticizing Russia's role, leading to criticism from the West.
The envoy's travels suggest China aims to take a more active role in resolving the long-running conflict between Ukraine and Russian-backed separatists.
