China Deploys AI-Powered Spherical Robots for Law Enforcement

The amphibious RT-G robots, equipped with facial recognition and non-lethal tools, are designed to assist police in crime detection and apprehension.

The RT-G spherical robots, developed by Shenzhen-based Logon Technology, are designed for both land and water operations, reaching speeds of up to 35 km/h (22 mph).
Equipped with advanced AI, the robots use facial recognition to identify suspects and can deploy non-lethal tools such as net guns, tear gas sprayers, and acoustic dispersers.
Originally conceptualized for harsh environments like lunar or Martian exploration, the robots are now being utilized for law enforcement and public safety in Chinese cities.
Each robot is built to withstand impacts of up to four tonnes and is capable of autonomously pursuing and immobilizing suspects or alerting nearby units for reinforcements.
Public reactions to the robots have been mixed, with some expressing skepticism about their effectiveness and others noting their potential to revolutionize policing.
