China Debuts AI Restoration of Kung Fu Classics and Premieres Fully AI-Produced Animated Film

  • The first phase allocates 100 million yuan to restore ten of the planned 100 kung fu classics under the Kung Fu Movie Heritage Project.
  • AI-driven remastering will enhance resolution, audio fidelity and color accuracy for titles such as Fist of Fury, Drunken Master, Once Upon a Time in China and The Big Boss.
  • Quantum Animation’s A Better Tomorrow: Cyber Border premiered at the festival as the world’s first fully AI-produced animated feature created with a full-stack AI pipeline.
  • The China Film Foundation and partners Canxing Media and Quantum Animation are overseeing the initiative under new government guidelines for generative AI services and synthetic content labeling.
  • Industry-Academia-Research Centers in Shanghai and other cities and national render farms in Guizhou aim to train talent and cut visual-effects processing time from over 400 days to 24 hours.
