Overview

  • On June 9, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Civil Affairs invited companies to join a national pilot programme for intelligent aged care robots.
  • Applicants must be Chinese organizations with aged care experience and clean credit, environmental and safety records, capable of producing at least 200 bots for trials in 20 locations.
  • Trials will evaluate robots’ performance in cooking, cleaning, lifting, mobility support and providing emotional companionship to seniors.
  • The pilot outlines advanced functions including early dementia detection, anti-wandering and anti-falling capabilities, and integration into smart home systems.
  • Designed to address labour shortages and the burden on families, the initiative targets home, community and institutional care settings as China’s population ages rapidly.
