China-Built Hyundai Elexio Confirmed for Australia in Early 2026 with Three Variants Certified

Built by Beijing Hyundai on the E-GMP platform, the SUV anchors the brand’s China-to-global strategy with Australia as an early destination.

Overview

  • Hyundai Australia confirmed the Elexio for local showrooms in early 2026, marking the first Hyundai for this market manufactured in China.
  • Australian certification lists a 2WD standard-range, a 2WD long-range, and an AWD long-range, with 2WD models using a 160 kW motor and AWD adding an approximately 70 kW secondary motor for about 230 kW combined.
  • The model uses an 88.1 kWh battery with a claimed WLTP range of over 500 km and DC fast charging from 30 to 80 percent in roughly 27 minutes, while China’s CLTC rating is 722 km.
  • The vehicle is produced by the HyundaiBAIC joint venture and features a 27-inch display powered by Qualcomm’s 8295 chip, Bose audio with Dolby Atmos, integrated health monitoring, Family Brake Mode, active side-bolsters, and nine airbags.
  • Local pricing and detailed specs will follow closer to launch, with expectations placing it in the mid-to-high $50,000 bracket between the Kona Electric and Ioniq 5 against rivals such as Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, and Kia EV5.
