China Breaks Ground on WenzhouFuzhou HSR as ShanghaiHangzhou Line Begins Early Works

Both lines are 350 km/h segments of the coastal corridor within China’s national high-speed rail grid.

Overview

  • China Railway announced on September 29 that construction has started on the Wenzhou–Fuzhou high-speed railway and initial works for the new ShanghaiHangzhou route.
  • Wenzhou–Fuzhou spans about 303 kilometers with 11 stations and a planned five-year build, targeting completion around 2030 according to the current schedule.
  • The ShanghaiHangzhou project begins with expansion of Shanghai’s Si Tuan station and construction of the roughly 12‑kilometer JiaTong Grand Bridge in Jiaxing.
  • Once built, the Wenzhou–Fuzhou link will help form a higher-standard NingboGuangzhou corridor by tying into opened, under-construction, and planned coastal lines.
  • Key control works include the Feiyunjiang Grand Bridge of about 14.75 kilometers on the Wenzhou–Fuzhou line, identified as a major engineering challenge.
