Overview

  • Joint Sea 2025 kicks off August 1 in the air and seas off Vladivostok, with land-based elements collectively dubbed Maritime Interaction 2025.
  • Participating ships, submarines and aircraft will train in anti-submarine warfare, air defense, search-and-rescue operations and joint gunnery.
  • After the exercises, both navies will embark on their sixth coordinated maritime patrol in the Pacific Ocean.
  • China’s defense ministry insists the drills follow a standing annual plan and are not directed at any other country or linked to current regional tensions.
  • Japan’s Defense Ministry warns of serious security implications as the US conducts Resolute Force Pacific 2025 with over 400 aircraft and 12,000 personnel.
