China and Russia Launch Joint Sea-2025 Naval Drills Off Vladivostok

The three-day exercises aim to deepen strategic ties through advanced anti-submarine operations and missile defense training.

Overview

  • The drills began on August 3 in the Sea of Japan near Vladivostok and will run through August 5.
  • Four Chinese guided-missile destroyers, including Shaoxing and Urumqi, are operating alongside multiple Russian Navy vessels.
  • Exercise activities include submarine rescue, joint anti-submarine warfare, air defense and anti-missile operations, plus maritime combat drills.
  • Diesel-electric submarines from both countries and a Chinese submarine rescue ship are also participating to sharpen underwater coordination.
  • Upon completion, both navies will conduct joint patrols in Pacific waters to enhance operational reach and signal a united strategic front.
