Overview

• At the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation foreign ministers’ meeting in Anning on August 14, Wang Yi hosted an informal “tea talk” with Cambodian FM Prak Sokhonn and Thai FM Maris Sangiampongsa to reinforce dialogue and consolidate the ceasefire.
• Both foreign ministers publicly thanked China for its constructive role and affirmed their determination to fully implement the ceasefire agreement and use border-committee mechanisms to manage disputes peacefully.
• Wang Yi pledged Chinese assistance for demining border areas and reopening crossings to facilitate exchanges and support ASEAN’s mediation efforts.
• UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has urged Cambodia and Thailand to ensure civilian protection, provide redress for conflict victims and curb inflammatory rhetoric.
• China backed ASEAN-led monitoring arrangements and offered to support follow-up measures as both countries work to stabilize the Preah Vihear border region.
