Chili's Retires Skillet Queso Nationwide, Debuts Southwestern Recipe

Chili's says low sales prompted the swap following favorable taste tests.

Overview

  • The skillet beef and white skillet quesos were removed nationwide on Oct. 7 and replaced with a southwestern queso.
  • My Chili's rewards members can claim a free order of the new queso with chips from Oct. 7 to Oct. 21.
  • Chili's reports each retired queso accounted for about 1% of sales.
  • After a two-year development process, roughly 70% of taste-test participants preferred the new recipe over the former skillet beef queso.
  • The southwestern queso now tops chicken bacon ranch nachos, accompanies sizzlin' fajitas, and joins the dip trio, as some customers express disappointment on social media.
