Chile’s Fiestas Patrias: Supermarkets Shut Sept. 18–19, Parada Militar Set for Friday

Public employees received their Fiestas Patrias bonus this week under Law 21.724.

Overview

  • Thursday 18 and Friday 19 September are mandatory national holidays for Independence and the Day of the Glories of the Army.
  • Major supermarket chains such as Tottus, Santa Isabel, Unimarc, Jumbo and Lider are closed both days, with normal service resuming on Saturday 20.
  • Mall Plaza and Parque Arauco operate only limited venues on the holidays, including cinemas, select restaurants, food courts and on-duty pharmacies.
  • The Parada Militar is scheduled for Friday 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the Elipse of Parque O’Higgins, led by President Gabriel Boric, with live coverage on Mega, TVN, Canal 13 and CHV.
  • The public-sector aguinaldo is CLP 88,667 for workers with net August pay up to CLP 1,025,622 and CLP 61,552 for higher earners, deposited on Sept. 16–17 according to payroll cycles and not subject to taxes or contributions.
