Chilean Theft Ring Charged in High-Value Burglaries Targeting Pro Athletes

Seven Chilean nationals face federal charges for allegedly orchestrating a sophisticated burglary operation stealing millions in valuables from NFL, NBA, and other athletes' homes.

The theft group, identified as a South American Theft Group (SATG), targeted athletes' homes during games, stealing jewelry, watches, cash, and other valuables worth over $3 million.
Federal authorities used selfies uploaded to iCloud, rental car data, and cell tower records to identify and apprehend the suspects, who face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Victims included prominent athletes such as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow, and Bobby Portis Jr., with burglaries occurring across multiple states between October and December 2024.
The group used burner phones, fake IDs, and coordinated roles to avoid detection, but errors like sharing incriminating photos ultimately led to their capture.
Lawmakers have raised concerns about 'burglary tourism' and are calling for stricter vetting of Chilean nationals entering the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program.
