Overview

  • The hospital will discontinue all prescriptions for puberty blockers and hormone therapies to patients under 19 as of August 30, citing escalating legal and regulatory risks
  • Mental health counseling and other non-medical support services for LGBT youth will remain available through the Gender Development Program
  • The decision comes after the Justice Department issued more than 20 subpoenas on July 9 to doctors and clinics offering transgender medical procedures to minors
  • Hospital officials have not confirmed whether Children’s National itself received one of the subpoenas
  • Stanford Medicine and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles have also paused or ended transition-related treatments under similar federal pressure
