Child Psychiatrist Sentenced to 40 Years for Using AI to Create Child Pornography

David Tatum secretly recorded minors and used AI to alter their images, some victims were his own patients. He was also ordered to pay $99,000 under the Child Pornography Victim Assistance Act.

  • David Tatum, a child psychiatrist from North Carolina, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for using artificial intelligence to create child pornography. He secretly recorded minors, including his own patients, undressing and showering, and used AI to alter their images.
  • Tatum was convicted of one count of production of child pornography, one count of transportation of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography. He will also serve three decades of supervised release after his prison term.
  • The psychiatrist misused AI to digitally alter clothed images of minors, making them sexually explicit. Some of the images he altered were from a school dance and a photo commemorating the first day of school.
  • Tatum had over 1,000 child pornography titles in his possession when he was caught in 2021. He admitted to being a voyeur and had been collecting child pornography since 2016.
  • In addition to his prison sentence, Tatum was ordered to pay $99,000 under the Amy, Vicky, and Andy Child Pornography Victim Assistance Act. After his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
