Overview
- A child was struck by a lorry on Epping Road in Ongar at about 4.20pm on Friday, July 10, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and later died.
- The lorry driver, a 48-year-old man from Derbyshire, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injuries and was later further arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving before being released on bail until mid-September.
- Essex Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit carried out on-scene enquiries and temporarily closed the road while investigators gathered evidence.
- Officers have asked anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash‑cam, CCTV or other footage to contact the force and to quote incident 1045 of 10 July, with information able to be given via the police website, live chat or by calling 101.
- Specialist family liaison officers are supporting the child’s family as enquiries continue and investigators work to reconstruct the events from witness accounts and recorded footage.
