• Dipali Dattatray Tandel and her family consumed poison on July 29 to protest authorities’ failure to act on alleged illegal soil excavation and sale dating back to 2019.
• Panvel Taluka Police and Panchayat Samiti officials forced entry into the locked home and transported the family to Panvel Sub-District Hospital for medical treatment.
• A group of 16 villagers intercepted the rescue vehicle near Zilla Parishad School, detaining officers for nearly an hour while demanding the arrest of those allegedly behind the soil sale.
• Police registered an FIR against the obstructing villagers under sections on unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint and obstruction of government duty in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
• No arrests have been made so far and authorities say the situation in Chikhale remains under control as investigations proceed.
