Chihuahua to Require Vaccination Proof for School Entry as Measles Outbreak Persists

The SEP’s requirement aims to close coverage gaps before classes start on September 1.

Overview

  • Starting September 1, students in Chihuahua must present updated vaccination records—including triple viral, double viral and pediatric booster shots—to attend in-person classes
  • As of August 4, the SSA has recorded 3,911 measles cases and 14 deaths, with over 93 percent of infections concentrated in Chihuahua and Sonora
  • The National Rapid Response Team against measles has been deployed in Chihuahua to conduct block vaccinations, set up macrocenters and carry out epidemiological surveillance in high-risk areas
  • Since January, 4.5 million measles vaccine doses have been administered nationwide and over 10 million doses are now in stock, with continuous deliveries planned through year-end
  • Immunization efforts target children aged six months to nine years, unvaccinated adolescents and adults up to 49, health and education personnel, agricultural workers and vulnerable groups such as indigenous communities
