Chihuahua Farmers Begin Reopening Border Crossings After Deal With Interior Ministry

A late-night meeting at the Interior Ministry produced a signed accord committing demonstrators to withdraw.

Overview

  • Producers started clearing international crossings on Friday morning, first freeing Puerto Palomas and allowing vehicle movement at Córdoba–Américas, Jerónimo–Santa Teresa, and Guadalupe–Tornillo.
  • Interior Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez said the remaining blockades would end today following the accord reached with the last group of demonstrators in Bucareli.
  • The Chihuahua delegation of the federal transport ministry reported morning obstructions at Puente Zaragoza and on Federal Highway 45 between Delicias and Camargo, which were later left open.
  • Authorities said they expected the Puente Internacional Zaragoza to be released by the end of the day.
  • Segob maintains producers’ observations were incorporated into the newly approved National Water Law and says the statute will be published in the federal gazette once Congress transmits it.
