Overview
- Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76 beat Savino Del Bene Scandicci 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 11-15) in Firenze on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, with the match decided in a fifth‑set tie‑break.
- Setter Sarah Van Aalen was named MVP and Chieri’s top scorers were Nemeth with 25 points, Nervini 22, Eggleston 18 and Lubian 15.
- Chieri made 24 service errors compared with Scandicci’s 10, but a stronger late match block and defence swing helped the visitors recover and close out the tie‑break.
- The loss ended Scandicci’s five‑year run of winning opening matches at home and marked Chieri’s first victory at the Pala BigMat since January 2021.
- The result fits a 2026 pattern of tight, tie‑break encounters between these clubs and gives Chieri early momentum in the Serie A1 regular season while title favorites such as Imoco Conegliano posted comfortable opening wins.
