Chiefs Sign Donovan Smith to One-Year Deal to Shore Up Offensive Line

The Kansas City Chiefs signed veteran offensive tackle Donovan Smith to a one-year, $9 million contract.
Smith has started 124 games over the past eight seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing exclusively at left tackle.
The Chiefs have invested heavily in their offensive line, signing Smith, Jawaan Taylor, and Joe Thuney, and drafting Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith.
Protecting quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a top priority for the Chiefs, as he has led the team to two titles, three AFC Championship Games, and been a Pro Bowler five times in just five seasons as the full-time starter.
Smith's signing will allow Taylor to stay on his preferred right side, and the Chiefs are projecting him to be a starter next season.
