Chicago's Overnight Winter Parking Ban Starts Dec. 1, Snow or No Snow

City officials say the calendar-based rules keep key routes clear for transit, emergency response, snowplows.

  • Violators face towing plus a $150 tow fee, a $60 ticket and $25 per day in storage costs.
  • Towed vehicles are taken to city pounds at 10301 S. Doty Ave. or 701 N. Sacramento.
  • Restricted-street signs are posted year-round, with reminder flyers before enforcement, and drivers can check maps or towed status at chicagoshovels.org or by calling 311.
  • Last year the start was delayed by one day to Dec. 2, yet 244 vehicles were towed that morning.
