Chicago White Sox Announce New Coaching Staff, Including Marcus Thames as Hitting Coach, Matt Wise as Assistant Pitching Coach
White Sox rebuild coaching staff, hoping Thames and Wise's successful coaching records with the Angels will reverse 61-101 season under manager Grifol; additional coaching staff also includes Jason Bourgeois, Drew Butera, and Grady Sizemore.
- Marcus Thames has been hired as the hitting coach for the Chicago White Sox, having successfully led the Los Angeles Angels in the same capacity last season, contributing to player Shohei Ohtani's American League-leading 44 homers.
- Matt Wise was hired as assistant pitching coach, following his tenure with the Angels during which Ohtani achieved a record of 34-16, a 2.84 ERA, and 542 strikeouts in 74 starts.
- The White Sox have also brought onboard Jason Bourgeois as first base/outfield Coach, Drew Butera as catching coach, and Grady Sizemore as major league coach; Sizemore's career includes three All-Star center fielder titles.
- Both hitting coach Marcus Thames and assistant pitching coach Matt Wise served successfully at the Angels and played key roles in mentoring star player Shohei Ohtani.
- The signings come as the White Sox look to turn their fortunes around after a disappointing 61-101 season under manager Pedro Grifol.
