- About 1,800 volunteers gathered on Sept. 11 to assemble single-serve seasoned oat meals for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
- The meals will be distributed through a network of more than 850 food pantries across Cook County, the Food Depository said.
- Mayor Brandon Johnson joined participants on the packing line, taking part in assembling oatmeal with sugar and cinnamon.
- The Food Depository reports serving nearly 200,000 households per month, with one in five area households experiencing food insecurity.
- The Chicago event was organized by 9/11 Day with partners including Serve Illinois and Meals of Hope, coinciding with Hunger Action Month.
