Chicago to Host UNESCO International Jazz Day 2026

Most events will be free with online registration opening March 1.

Overview

  • An All-Star Global Concert is set for April 30 at the Lyric Opera House, chaired by Herbie Hancock and featuring more than 40 international artists.
  • Confirmed performers include Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Terence Blanchard, Melissa Aldana, Jacob Collier, Christian McBride, Gregory Porter and Chicago artists Bobby Broom, Marquis Hill, Joel Ross and Jahari Stampley.
  • Citywide programming runs April 1–30 with educational events, master classes, neighborhood performances and club tours leading up to the broadcast.
  • Hancock and Elling will serve as co-artistic directors for the concert, which is planned to stream to audiences in 190 countries.
  • Organizers are aligning the 2026 edition with the U.S. 250th anniversary, Miles Davis’ centennial and the opening of the Obama Presidential Center, with registration at chicagojazzalliance.org starting March 1.
