Overview
- Chicago has installed 34 of a planned 50 speed cameras for 2025, with seven new locations announced on June 13.
- Warning notices began June 1 at Benito Juarez High School and Francis Xavier Warde School, and will start June 15 at five additional school and park sites.
- Citations at the first two sites will be issued from July 15 and at the five new sites from August 1, with fines set at $35 for 6–10 mph over the limit and $100 for 11 mph or more.
- Enforcement hours vary by location, with school-zone cameras active 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on school days and park cameras operating during park opening hours.
- All sites were chosen based on crash data and stakeholder feedback, but critics contend the program disproportionately affects Black and Latino communities.
