Overview

• One- and two-mile races are slated for Sept. 21 on the main branch from the Dearborn Street Bridge to the finish below the Clark Street Bridge.
• About 500 experienced athletes are expected, including Olympic medalists Olivia Smoliga and Natalie Hinds.
• Registration is closed, but spectators can watch from designated Riverwalk viewing areas.
• Event fundraising benefits Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine’s ALS research and local learn-to-swim programs via A Long Swim.
• Citywide happenings include Riot Fest’s 20th edition in Douglass Park through Sept. 21, Lorde at United Center on Sept. 19, Chicago Live! at Navy Pier, and inaugural Oktoberfests in Wrigleyville and Old Town.
