Chicago Police Seek Former Tenant of Raided South Shore Building Reported Missing

The 56-year-old became homeless after a judge ordered the unsafe complex cleared.

Overview

  • Chicago police say Samantha Stamps was last seen Jan. 2 near the Central Park Pink Line station and ask anyone with information to call 312-747-8274 or 911.
  • Stamps previously lived at 7500 S. South Shore Drive, and she left by Dec. 12 under a court order to vacate the building.
  • The complex had long documented hazards and was raided by heavily armed federal agents in late September, when 37 people were detained without subsequent criminal charges.
  • Residents formed a tenants’ union and sought a 60-day extension to move, and the Mayor’s Office later arranged temporary housing through Catholic Charities for some.
  • Police report that Stamps has been homeless and is known to frequent the areas around 21st Street and Spaulding Avenue and Roosevelt Road and Kolin Avenue.
