Overview
- A 16-year-old girl was shot in the leg around 1:30 a.m. Aug. 5 in Grand Crossing by someone firing from a gray SUV and remains in serious condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
- About 30 minutes later in Englewood, a female driver was shot in the back and later died at a local hospital while her two passengers, a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, were wounded and treated at area hospitals.
- No one has been arrested in either the Grand Crossing or Englewood shootings and Area One detectives with the Chicago Police Department continue active investigations.
- On July 31 in Burnside, a 35-year-old man was carjacked, shot in the neck and killed before his vehicle was stolen, prompting a CPD homicide probe.
- A 16-year-old boy was arrested Aug. 5 and has been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and vehicular hijacking in the Burnside case.
