Chicago Police Officer Injured, Suspect Killed in Traffic Stop Shooting

A Chicago police officer and a 26-year-old man named Dexter Reed were involved in an exchange of gunfire during a traffic stop in Humboldt Park, resulting in Reed's death and the officer's injury.
The officer was shot in the wrist and is hospitalized in good condition; four other officers were hospitalized for observation.
The shooting occurred Thursday evening around 6 p.m. and was detected by the ShotSpotter system, which recorded over 50 rounds.
A firearm was recovered from the scene, and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident.
Officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative duties for 30 days, a routine step following police-involved shootings.
