Chicago Police Officer and Sister Sentenced for Participation in Capitol Riot

The siblings received 90 days of home detention and three years of probation, with additional orders for community service and restitution.

Chicago police officer Karol Chwiesiuk and his sister Agnieszka have been sentenced to 90 days of home detention and three years of probation for their participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
The siblings, who were convicted of four misdemeanors, spent approximately 10 minutes inside the Capitol during the riot.
Prosecutors had asked for a year in prison for Karol Chwiesiuk, citing his violation of his oath as a police officer and his false testimony at trial.
Karol Chwiesiuk is currently on unpaid leave from the Chicago Police Department, and his employment status may depend on the resolution of this case.
Judge Ana Reyes also ordered the siblings to perform 200 hours of community service and pay $500 in restitution.
