Chicago Police Investigate Homicide Linked to Fatal Assisted Living Facility Shooting

A knife-wielding man fatally shot by officers in Grand Crossing is now suspected in the stabbing death of another resident at the same facility.

Overview

  • The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is investigating two Chicago Police Department shootings, including one at an assisted living facility in Grand Crossing and another involving an off-duty officer in Roseland.

  • Hours later, Keith Harding, 58, was found dead with stab wounds on the same floor of the facility; police believe the man shot by officers is the suspect in Harding's death.
  • Body-camera footage from the Grand Crossing incident is under review, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative duty for at least 30 days per department policy.
