Chicago Police Confirm Three Dating-App Armed Robberies in Bronzeville

Officials have opened an Area One investigation with a public warning after victims were lured into an apartment then robbed at gunpoint.

  • The robberies occurred on July 19 at 4:30 a.m., July 23 at 2:05 a.m. and July 24 at midnight at an apartment on the 4800 block of South Drexel Boulevard.
  • Detectives say suspects posed as dates on a gay dating app to lure individuals into the building’s lobby before escorting them inside.
  • Once inside, two to four masked men brandished firearms and coerced victims into transferring money from their bank accounts via their smartphones.
  • In one incident a victim sustained injuries during the armed confrontation.
  • Police have asked anyone with information to contact Area One detectives at 312-747-8380 or submit an anonymous tip online under reference number P25-1-087 and have advised that all first meetings be held in public with friends notified of their whereabouts.
